The Chester Lions Club has approved a contribution of $2,000 towards the acquisition of a K9 and the requisite training program that is being planned for the Washington Township Police Department.
Officer Michael Thompson, with the approval of the Chief of Police, is administering the program with the selection of a Belgian Malinois named Cliff. He is working directly with the Progressive K9 Academy in Pennsylvania toward a program that will fit into police department operations.
The dog is a necessary tool for Washington Township. The animal will be used for public relations through demonstrations and visits to local schools as well as assisting in narcotic searches and criminal encounters.
